RAJSHAHI, July 26, 2026 (BSS) - Speakers at a community-level mobilization meeting here today called for introducing necessary policies and incentives to expand renewable energy, particularly rooftop solar power.

The meeting was organised by Rajshahi Forum for Ecological Development (Rajshahi FED) in collaboration with Paribartan, Rajshahi, CLEAN and BWGED in the Pachabai area of the city.

Local residents and members of Rajshahi FED actively participated in the programme.

Director of Paribartan Rashed Ripon, Campaign Facilitator Hasibul Hasan, Campaign Associate Rony Roy and Paribartan staff member Soma Bhowmik addressed the event.

They demanded a subsidy of Tk 25,000 per kilowatt for rooftop solar power installation and the appointment of skilled solar power personnel at every Union Parishad.

They also called for regular training programmes to develop a skilled workforce in the solar power sector alongside effective policies and incentives to promote renewable energy at the local level.

The speakers stressed the need to waive all duties and taxes on the import of solar power-related equipment.

During the discussion, they said greater use of renewable energy would play a vital role in ensuring the country's energy security, protecting the environment, addressing the impacts of climate change and promoting sustainable development.

They also urged local government bodies and the relevant authorities to implement the proposed measures.

The participants expressed their determination to continue public awareness activities in the future to promote renewable energy and advocate for solar-friendly policies.
