BANDARBAN, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 11,180 fruit and forest tree 
saplings, along with organic fertilizer, were distributed among 65 farmers in 
Alikadam upazila of the district today as part of an initiative to improve 
farmers' socio-economic conditions and promote environmentally sustainable 
agriculture.

The sapling distribution ceremony was held at 4.00 pm at the Upazila Parishad 
Rest House in Alikadam. The programme was organised by the Bandarban Zila 
Parishad.

Member of Bandarban Zila Parishad Saiful Islam Rimon attended the event as 
the chief guest. Deputy Director of the Horticulture Center Liton Debnath and 
Alikadam Upazila Agriculture Officer and Administrator of Sadar Union 
Parishad Agriculturist Md. Sohel Rana were present as special guests.

Speakers at the event said that under the project, each of the 65 farmers 
received 172 saplings, totaling 11,180 fruit and forest tree saplings.

The distributed varieties included mango, coffee, guava, lemon and several 
other species. Organic fertilizer was also provided to the beneficiaries.

The speakers emphasized that expanding the cultivation of fruit and forest 
trees would help increase farmers' incomes, strengthen nutrition security, 
and contribute to environmental conservation. 

They urged the recipients to ensure proper planting, care, and maintenance of 
the saplings to maximize the benefits of the initiative.
