KHULNA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona has said there is no alternative to sports for the physical and mental development of students alongside their academic studies.

"The foundation for building a healthy and strong nation is laid on the playing field. We often confine ourselves to knowledge gained from textbooks, but the playground is the greatest school for learning discipline, leadership, team spirit and tolerance," he said.

The KDA chairman made the remarks while distributing jerseys, boots, footballs and other sports equipment among students of KDA School and College here today.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken various initiatives, including construction of mini-stadiums at the upazila level, to encourage the younger generation to participate in sports.

"Everyone must work together to implement the prime minister's directives to build a drug-free society," he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Shafiqul Alam Mona, also president of Khulna city BNP, said they expect students of KDA School and College to demonstrate their talent not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities.

"Today's distribution of sports equipment is not merely a formal event of handing over footballs, cricket bats, volleyballs or badminton equipment.

It is a small initiative to encourage students to engage in healthy recreation and develop greater interest in sports," he continued.

He said the KDA authorities have always been working to improve the quality of the institution.

"We are always beside the institution to ensure a suitable academic environment for students and to expand the scope of sports and cultural activities, and we will continue to do so in the future," he added.

KDA Secretary (Deputy Secretary) Syed Faruk Ahmed, Chief Engineer Kazi Sabirul Alam, Executive Engineer (Maintenance) Muntassir Mamun and Principal Md Monirul Islam, among others, were present at the programme.

Teachers, officials and students of the institution also attended the event.
