KHULNA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today said measures to prevent dengue and chikungunya had been launched three months ago in line with government directives.

“Alongside keeping the city clean, we have made all-out efforts to raise public awareness and ensure the safety of city dwellers. However, the expected results in reducing dengue infections have not been achieved,” he said.

The KCC administrator made the remarks at a discussion and exchange-of-views meeting as the chief guest at Sonadanga PWD Secondary School.

He stressed that ensuring a safe environment for city residents required maintaining cleanliness not only on roads and in drains but also around individual homes.

“Everyone must ensure a clean environment around their homes. Bushes and stagnant water must be removed,” he said.

The school authorities organised the programme to raise awareness among students about dengue and chikungunya, as dengue infections have been increasing at an alarming rate in Khulna city.

Head teachers of several schools under Sonadanga Police Station also attended the programme.

Manju urged students to play an active role in raising awareness about dengue among their friends and family members.

He also called upon teachers to take initiatives to clean their respective school campuses at least once a week.

He expressed hope that increased awareness through educational institutions would help reduce dengue infections.

A dengue-awareness quiz competition was held among students at the concluding session, and the KCC administrator distributed prizes among the winners.

Head Teacher Md Liakat Hossain presided over the programme.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed and District Education Officer S.M. Chayedur Rahman attended the programme as special guests.

KCC Chief Waste Management Officer Md Anisur Rahman, Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammiul Islam, Conservancy Officer Md Ahiduzzaman Khan, social workers Asaduzzaman Murad and Sheikh Jamirul Islam Jamil, former KCC councillor Rabeya Fahid Hasnahena, and teachers, guardians and students, among others, were present.
