CHATTOGRAM, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain today urged all to stand by the July fighters, saying the souls of July martyrs find peace if supports are extended to the July worriers.
"If we can support the July fighters from our individual positions, the souls of the martyrs will attain peace," he said while addressing as the chief guest the inaugural function of a three-day event organized by the Chattogram Press Club, commemorating the second anniversary of the July Uprising this afternoon.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain asserted that the 2024 mass uprising represents a surge of public outrage against Sheikh Hasina's oppression, corruption, plundering, misrule and discrimination.
"This surge resulted in the establishment of a new government. We regained our democratic rights, freedom of expression, rule of law, human rights, and the right to vote," he added.
The July mass uprising does not belong to any single party or faction, he said, urging all to remain united reaping the benefits of the uprising.
Press Club President Zahidul Karim Kochi presided over the function while Chattogram Metropolitan Journalists Union President Md. Shah Nowaz, Chattogram University Professor Shahidul Haque, journalists Mounuddin Qaderi Shawkat, journalists Golam Maola Murad, Osman Gani Mansur, Mustafa Naeem, Meaf Md. Arif, Saleh Noman, Hasan Mukul, among others, attended the event.
Quran Khatam, Doa Mahfil and discussion meeting were held on the first day of the programme.
