RAJSHAHI, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS)- Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton has said that an initiative has been taken to build 22 playgrounds in the city to further advance the sports arena of Rajshahi.
He said that to build a drug-free Rajshahi, the youth must be engaged in sports and cultural activities.
He made the remarks in a view exchange meeting with the players and officials of the metropolitan football team on the occasion of the Deputy Commissioner Inter-Upazila Gold Cup Football Competition-2026, held this noon at the conference room of Nagar Bhaban.
The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator said various steps have been taken to advance Rajshahi's sports arena.
An initiative has been taken to build 22 playgrounds in the city. Construction work of an indoor stadium has already started.
At the meeting, RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken various steps to establish sports as a profession and is encouraging the players.
The government is providing sports allowances to former and current players who have achieved success at the national and international levels.
'Notun Kuri Sports' has been launched with the aim of creating new players.
He sought the cooperation of all concerned including sports organizers, players and guardians to further advance Rajshahi's sports arena.
The meeting was attended by RCC Chief Executive Officer Rezaul Karim, Secretary Sohel Rana, Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP Vice Presidents Aslam Sarkar and Muktar Hossain, Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Md. Mamun Dollar, Rajshahi District Sports Association Member Secretary Mozammel Haque and players of the metropolitan football team.
