Rajshahi District Police holds tree plantation drive

RAJSHAHI, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi District Police today launched a tree plantation program and distributed free saplings among students as part of efforts to protect the environment, maintain ecological balance and build a greener Bangladesh. The program was held at the drill shed of Rajshahi Police Lines as part of a nationwide initiative to plant 25 crore trees over the next five years.

DIG of Rajshahi Range Ashik Sayeed attended the event as the chief guest, while Superintendent of Police of Rajshahi District Mohammad Naimul Hasan presided over and coordinated the program. Speaking at the event, Ashik Sayeed said tree plantation is essential to mitigate the impacts of climate change and protect the environment.

He called upon people from all walks of life to come forward from their respective positions to plant and nurture trees to ensure a green and livable environment. Saplings of various species were distributed among students of Shaheed Mamun Mahmud Police Line School and College.

Later, DIG Ashik Sayeed, his wife and Adviser of Police Women Welfare Association (PUNAK) Rajshahi Range Shamim Ara Haque, SP Mohammad Naimul Hasan, his wife and President of District PUNAK Taposi Rabeya planted saplings on the Police Lines premises.

Additional Superintendents of Police Shariful Islam, Mainul Islam and Helena Akhter, along with senior police officers and employees, were present on the occasion.
