NARSINGDI, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 18 illegal gas connections were disconnected during a drive conducted in different areas of Shibpur and Narsingdi Sadar upazilas today to prevent illegal gas connections and unauthorized use of gas.
The drive also resulted in the collection of around Tk 15 lakh in outstanding gas bills. The joint operation was conducted in the afternoon by the Narsingdi District Administration and Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited.
During the drive, mobile courts were conducted under the Bangladesh Gas Act, 2010 against individuals involved in taking illegal gas connections, unauthorized use of gas and violation of relevant laws.
Eight cases were filed during the operation and fines totaling Tk 207,000 were realized from the accused. Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Narsingdi District Administration Nepal Kanti Deb conducted the mobile court.
According to the district administration, unauthorized gas connections are causing wastage of state resources and revenue losses while adversely affecting gas supply to legitimate consumers and posing risks to public safety.
The district administration has been conducting regular drives against illegal gas connections and misuse of gas, and such operations will continue in the future, officials said.
