BGB detains two with 14 lakh yaba tablets in Teknaf

COX’S BAZAR, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two people and seized 14 lakh yaba tablets in a drive in the Hnila border area of Teknaf upazila here.

The arrestees were identified as Joygor Das, son of Gopal Das of Jaliapara area under Hnila Union, and Md Hossain, son of Md Shafi of Fuler Deil area in Teknaf, said a BGB press release here this evening.

Acting on a tip-off that a large consignment of yaba was being smuggled into Bangladesh from Myanmar, a special patrol team of Hnila Border Outpost (BOP) under Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) took position along the border.

The team later conducted a drive at Switchgate Post, about one kilometre south of Hnila BOP, around 200 yards north of BRM-12 and approximately 200 yards inside Bangladesh from the zero line.

During the operation, the BGB team arrested the two suspects and recovered 14 lakh yaba tablets from their possession.

Commanding Officer of Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) Lt Col Zahirul Islam said legal action against the detainees under the existing laws was underway.
