
DHAKA, Mar 26, 2026 (BSS) - The Great Independence and National Day was observed today in all naval areas with due dignity and solemnity, with several Navy ships opened to the public for tours and demonstrations of naval operations.
On this occasion, special prayers were offered in mosques across various naval areas, seeking eternal peace for the souls of the martyred freedom fighters, as well as peace, prosperity, and continued progress for the nation and the armed forces.
To mark the day, various programs were held across all ships and establishments in the naval areas of Dhaka, Chattogram, and Khulna. Educational institutions run by the Bangladesh Navy, including Navy School and College, Navy Anchorage School and College, and Shishu Niketan, organized essay writing and recitation competitions, discussion sessions, and prize distribution ceremonies for the winners.
Additionally, a drawing competition was held with the participation of students from the specialized school "Ashar Alo" for children with special needs.
On this occasion, a free medical campaign was organized by the Navy in Chattogram, where specialist surgeons provided free medical services to underprivileged and general people.
Patients received diagnoses, necessary medicines free of cost, and health awareness advice. The recipients expressed great satisfaction with the sincere and professional healthcare services.
To celebrate the day, a mechanized column showcasing modern military equipment, a naval contingent, and maritime patrol aircraft and helicopters participated in the parade at the National Parade Square, demonstrating the Navy's three-dimensional capabilities.
Furthermore, several naval ships were opened to the public from 9:00 am until sunset at different locations, including BNS Samudra Abhijan at Chattogram Naval Base, BNS Gangchil at Sadarghat in Dhaka, BNS Atandra at Narayanganj Naval Base, Shaheed Akhtar Uddin at Khulna Rocket Base, BNS Abu Bakar at Digraj Naval Base, and BNS Adommo at BIWTA base in Barishal.
A large number of visitors toured the ships, expressing enthusiasm and gaining firsthand knowledge about naval operations.
Maritime Museum, located at Lalkhan Bazar (Lovely Lane) in Chattogram, was also kept open to the public.
