36 bodies lifted from S. African gold mine since Monday

STILFONTEIN, South Africa, Jan 14, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Thirty-six bodies have been lifted over two days from an abandoned South African gold mine, police said Tuesday, with fears that dozens of people were still underground.

After nine bodies were recovered Monday, "27 have been certified dead" on Tuesday, police Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said in a statement.
