CARACAS, May 2, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - The Venezuelan government on Friday said it would "categorically" reject an order from the UN's top court to suspend elections in the oil-rich Essequibo region it is contesting with neighboring Guyana.

Venezuela goes to the polls on May 25 to elect new governors of states, in which it has included Essequibo -- a region that has been administered by Guyana for over a century.

The International Court of Justice order has not been officially published yet, but was shared by Guyana's president on Thursday.
