DHAKA, July 27, 2025 (BSS) - Thirty six victims of burn injuries are now undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) here following the air force fighter jet crash at the Milestone School and College at Uttara here on July 21.
Four of the injured are in critical conditions and they being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to the information of the NIBPS updated at 9am today.
Of the remaining others, four are taking treatment at the Medical High Dependency Unit (MHDU) while six in the Female High Dependency Unit (FHDU), eight in the Post Operative Ward (POW) and 14 in the cabin of the institute.
The burn institute treated a total of 56 patients of burn injuries after the jet crash. Seventeen of them have so far succumbed to their injuries at the institute and two were discharged as their health condition showed a significant progress. One patient was transferred to the National Institute of Mental Health Hospital.
The two students of the Milestone School and College, Rafsi Akhter Rafia, 12, and Ayan Khan, 12, were discharged from the Burn Institute on Saturday afternoon.
NIBPS Director Prof Dr Nasir Uddin earlier on Saturday told the media that 36 burn victims are now taking treatment at the institute and four of them are in critical conditions at the ICU.
Nine others have been kept in the CBR (complete bed rest) category while the remaining others are taking treatment at various wards.
He also said they are planning to discharge 10 more people in phases within next week.
Earlier on 21st July, a fighter jet of the air force slammed into a two storey building of the Milestone School and College due to mechanical fault minutes after taking off after 1pm, killing 34 so far, Health and Family Welfare Ministry sources confirmed.
