DHAKA, Dec 6, 2025 (BSS) - Malaysian High Commissioner Mohd Shuhada Othman today said Malaysia aims to attract 300,000 Bangladeshi tourists in 2026 under its Visit Malaysia Year campaign, stressing that stronger tourism ties and proper use of the official e-Visa system will ensure smoother travel.

The envoy made the remarks while launching the Malaysia Tourism Fair and the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 promotional campaign at the InterContinental Dhaka's Crystal Ballroom.

"Bangladesh remains one of Malaysia's strongest and fastest-growing tourist markets," Shuhada said, noting that the tourism revival strategy includes targeted outreach to Bangladeshi travelers.

Addressing reports of travelers being turned back at Malaysian immigration, the High Commissioner said the e-Visa process is "systematic and straightforward" when applicants use the official portal.

He warned that discrepancies arising from third-party applications may lead to complications, including blacklisting.

He urged citizens to apply directly through the official e-Visa platform, the link to which is regularly posted on the High Commission's Facebook page.

"Please feel free to reach out to us for advice," he added, assuring assistance where needed.

Shuhada also inaugurated Festival Malaysia during the programme, saying the initiative will further promote Malaysian culture, hospitality and travel offerings under the theme "Malaysia Truly Asia - Visit Malaysia 2026."

He thanked event partners, including the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Tourism Malaysia, for their support in strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation.
