KINGSTON, Jamaica, June 6, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - A power cut struck the entire island of Jamaica on Friday, the country's energy minister said, without providing a reason for the outage.

"Island-wide black out," Daryl Vaz announced in a post on X.

Vaz said that power was expected to be restored overnight, adding that "some places have already started receiving Power."

"All power stations are being restarted," he said.

National energy supplier Jamaica Public Service Company said it was investigating the reason for the blackout, according to a statement shared by Vaz and Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

"I can state that a fulsome investigation will commence into this UNACCEPTABLE OUTAGE by the utility provider," Vaz said.
