
SIRAJGANJ, June 5, 2026 (BSS) - Three people, including a couple, were killed
and their daughter was seriously injured when a passenger bus hit a broken-
down battery-run auto-van in Belkuchi upazila of the district this morning.
The accident took place around 7:05 am in the Meghulla Bus Stand area on the
Sirajganj-Enayetpur regional highway.
The deceased were identified as Md. Motaleb Sarkar, 40, son of late Bacher
Sarkar of Azugara Hijoltala village in Belkuchi upazila, his wife Fazila
Khatun, 35, and the auto-rickshaw-cum-van driver Md. Nuru, 45, son of late
Sonaullah Mudi of Jamtail village.
The injured, Tamanna Khatun, 16, is the daughter of Motaleb Sarkar.
Confirming the incident, Belkuchi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imam
Zafar said the battery-run van became immobile after its axle broke down near
Meghulla Bus Stand.
At that time, a speeding Dhaka Express bus travelling from Dhaka to Enayetpur
rammed into the stranded vehicle, leaving three people dead on the spot and
injuring Tamanna critically, he said.
Police rushed to the scene after receiving information, recovered the bodies
and handed them over to the victims' families.
The injured teenager was admitted to Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College
Hospital, where her condition was stated to be critical.
The OC said police seized the bus involved in the accident, but its driver
and helper managed to flee the scene. Legal proceedings are underway in this
connection.
