
DHAKA, June 5, 2026 (BSS) - A fire that broke out at the cargo area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital on Friday night had no impact on flight operations and was brought under control within minutes, officials said.
"The fire incident at the Cargo Village has had no impact on flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The fire has also been brought under control," said Group Captain Ragib Samad, Executive Director of HSIA to media.
The fire erupted in front of Gate No. 9 of the airport's Cargo Village, prompting an immediate response from the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Shafiq, a duty officer at the Fire Service Headquarters, confirmed the incident and said firefighters acted swiftly to prevent the blaze from spreading further.
"We received the report at 11:24 pm. Four units of the Fire Service immediately responded and brought the fire under control at 11:38 pm," the official said.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire within 14 minutes, averting a potentially larger incident at the country's busiest airport.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be known immediately.
Fire Service personnel and airport authorities were assessing the situation.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
