SUNAMGANJ,  Feb 1, 2026 (BSS) - Advocate Mohammad Shams Uddin, nominated by Jamaat-e-Islami for the Sunamganj-4 constituency, has pledged to improve healthcare, education and establish justice in the area, if elected in the 13th national election.

Speaking about his key agenda of fighting the election in an interview with BSS, he expressed plans to construct bridges in Fatehpur Union of Bishwambharpur Upazila and in Sunamganj Sadar.

In a query about his commitment to the people, he said his priority is to work in areas lacking education, transport, and healthcare facilities in Sunamganj Sadar and Bishwambharpur.

He highlighted the difficulties faced by the residents of three unions in Sadar due to the absence of a bridge at Haluargat and the isolation of Fatehpur Union from the upazila headquarters, promising construction of bridges in these areas if elected.

Regarding compliance with the electoral code of conduct, he said the party strictly follows election rules. “I have instructed all party supporters to adhere to the code, warning that violations may lead to administrative penalties,” he added.

Reflecting on the July Charter-related referendum, Shams Uddin said the referendum is significant for eliminating autocracy.

“The charter was drafted with consensus among all political parties and I am carrying out campaign for “yes” vote in the referendum,” he noted.
Sharing his expectations for the parliamentary election, he said he will work to fulfill these promises if elected and called on voters to cast their ballots in favour of justice, reflecting the momentum for change brought by the July uprising.

Other candidates contesting Sunamganj-4, comprising Sunamganj Sadar and Bishwambharpurupazilas, include BNP nominee Advocate Nurul Islam Nurul and independent candidate Dewan Zainul Zakerin, great-grandson of poet Hasan Raja and former senior vice-president of district BNP.

The constituency contains 341,833 voters, including 173,368 men, 168,463 women, and two third-gender voters.
