DHAKA, April 12, 2026 (BSS) - The Women and Children Repression Prevention (Amendment) Bill, 2026 has been passed in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) by a unanimous voice vote on Friday.

The bill, introduced by State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Minister A Z M Zahid Hossain, seeks to amend the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000.

The amendment aims to make the justice process faster, more efficient and accountable by setting timeframes for investigation and trial, reducing delays that cause suffering to victims.

It strengthens protection measures to ensure victims' safety, privacy and dignity, allowing them to participate in legal proceedings without fear or harassment.

The law also establishes a stricter accountability framework for offenders, reinforcing a "zero tolerance" policy against violence and ensuring inevitable punishment.

It emphasizes the use of digital evidence and technology-based investigations to enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement and the judiciary.

The amendment is expected to improve safety for women and children, strengthen public trust in justice, and support Bangladesh's commitment to gender equality and human rights.
