Govt to hand over 200 unused LGRD buildings to health ministry: PM

SANGSAD BHABAN, April 22, 2026 (BSS) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today said that the government has taken an initiative to hand over around 200 unused buildings in urban areas under the LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry to the health ministry.

“Within two months, these buildings will be made suitable for treatment of women and children, including transforming into maternity clinics,” he said. 

The Prime Minister said this while replying to a supplementary question from treasury bench lawmaker from Moulvibazar-2 constituency Md Showkatul Islam in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) here with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, in the chair.

Within this month, the process of handing over these 200 buildings to the health ministry will be completed, Tarique Rahman said, adding, within the next two months, these buildings will be developed into small maternity clinics and made suitable for proving treatment to women and children.
