
SANGSAD BHABAN, April 26, 2026 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam today informed Parliament that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is conducting investigations into alleged irregularities and corruption in three major infrastructure projects — the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, the Karnaphuli River Multi-lane Road Tunnel and the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway.
The minister disclosed this while responding to a written question by treasury bench member Md. Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas (Pabna-5) in the House today.
He said that during the past 16 years, the Awami League government had undertaken these three mega projects under the Bridges Division of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.
He presented details regarding the initial estimated costs of the projects and the number of times their budgets were revised.
According to the minister, the initial estimated cost of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge project was Tk 10,161.75 crore, and its allocation was revised four times.
The Karnaphuli River multi-lane road tunnel project had an initial estimated cost of Tk 8,446.63 crore, with its budget revised twice.
Similarly, the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project was initially estimated at Tk 16,901.32 crore, and its allocation was revised once.
Shaikh Rabiul Alam said that the Anti-Corruption Commission is currently carrying out investigations into alleged irregularities and corruption related to these projects.
