Man gets life term over rape in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, July 31, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a case filed over the rape of a college student in Kachua upazila of Chandpur in 2013.

The convict, Bishwanath Chandra Das, 34, hails from Doria Doulat Mullak village under Bancharampur thana of Brahmanbaria district. 

Judge Md Abdul Hannan of the Chandpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict in absence of the accused.

The convict was also fined Taka 20,000, said Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Abdul Kader Khan.

According to case details, the victim, a college student from Matlab Dakkhin upazila, was abducted by Bishwanath and his associates on September 24, 2013, while she was on her way to college.

Later, her uncle filed a case with Matlab Dakkhin Police Station on October 9, 2013.

Following investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against the accused on November 26, 2013.

After examining four witnesses over several hearing dates, the court delivered its verdict today.
