2 siblings get life term over murder in Siddhirganj

NARAYANGANJ, July 31, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two siblings to life imprisonment in a case filed over the murder of a man in Siddhirganj in 2015.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Mominul Islam delivered the verdict in the absence of the convicts.

The convicts are Afzal Hossain Pappu, 40, and his brother Shukkur, 37, of Batanpara area in Siddhirganj.

The court also fined each convict Tk 10,000; in default, they will have to serve an additional one year in prison.

According to the prosecution, Sirajul Islam was looking after an under-construction building owned by Saudi expatriate Zakir Hossain in the Mizmiji area.

Shukkur and Pappu had demanded extortion from Sirajul several times. On July 23, 2015, during a heated altercation, the brothers beat Sirajul severely, leaving him critically injured.

Sirajul died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Md Zakaria Kanak, son of the deceased, later filed a murder case with Siddhirganj Police Station.
