Chuadanga AL leader Jahangir remanded in Rubel killing case

DHAKA, Aug 5, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed general secretary of Chuadanga's Jibonnagar upazilla Awami League (AL) Md Jahangir Alam on a two-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of garment worker Rubel in the capital's Adabor Ring Road area during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.

A team of detective branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Tejgaon Zone detained Jahangir, also the former mayor of Jibonnagar municipality in Chuadanga, on August 4.

According to the case documents, a couple of hundred student-people including Rubel brought out a rally in Adabor Ring Road area in the capital on August 5, 2025. Around 11.30 am, the rally came under attack from police and cadres of AL and its front organizations. Rubel got shot and died on the spot.

Rubel's father Rafikul Islam filed the case on August 22 with the Adabor Police Station.
