RANGAMATI, Aug 13, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife in Kaukhali upazila of the district in 2001.

Senior District and Sessions Judge Md. Ahsan Tarek announced the verdict on Wednesday,

The court also fined convict Uchai La Marma, a resident of Baratoli Para of the upazila, Taka 20,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail, said Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Pratim Roy Pumpu.

According to prosecution, convict Uchai La Marma killed his wife Naichai U Marma on July 2, 2001, over a family feud.

The accused has been absconding since the murder. On the basis of eyewitness testimony, the state has been able to prove the charges against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.
