DHAKA, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh U-17 national football team got off to a flying start in the SAFF U-17 Championship, defeating Nepal 4-0 in their opening Group A match at the Racecourse Ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka today.
Saabir Islam opened the scoring for Bangladesh in the 30th minute. Shortly after the break, Opu Rahman doubled the lead in the 48th minute. Mohammad Arif added the third goal in the 50th minute and Mohammad Manik sealed the victory with the fourth goal in the 67th minute.
Bangladesh dominated the match from start to finish, securing a convincing win, while Nepal struggled to make an impact.
The Red and Green will face Sri Lanka in their final group match on September 21. A draw will be enough for Bangladesh to secure a place in the semifinals.
Nepal, meanwhile, had earlier beaten host Sri Lanka 2-0 in their tournament opener.
Seven South Asian nations - Bangladesh, defending champions India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and host Sri Lanka - are split into two groups in the regional tournament.
