
DHAKA, Nov 15, 2025 (BSS) - The 2nd Women's Kabaddi World Cup, the biggest extravaganza of the women's kabaddi, begins Monday (Nov 17) at Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, marking the Festival of Youth 2025.
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan is expected to inaugurate the World Cup as the chief guest.
The Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF) has taken overall preparations to make the World Cup a success. Ahead of the World Cup, the participating teams have started to arrive in the capital.
After a prolong thirteen years gap, the Women's Kabaddi World Cup is going to be held in Dhaka after the first edition was held in Patna, India in 2012.
A total of eleven countries will take part in the mega event. The participating countries are host Bangladesh, defending champions India, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Iran, Kenya, Nepal, Poland, Thailand, Uganda and Zanzibar.
Argentina withdrew their participation from the World Cup at the last moment.
The final of the World Cup will be held on November 24. The matches of the World Cup will be streamed live on State-owned Bangladesh Television, T-sports and OTT platform.
Addressing at a press conference held at BKF premise today (Saturday), BKF general secretary SM Newaz Shohag informed that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus would unveil trophy of the World Cup tomorrow (Sunday) at the State Guest House Jamuna in presence of the eleven captains of the participating countries.
Shohag said the players of the all participating teams would be accommodated at Hotel Regency, the hospitality partner of the BKF.
The fixture of the World Cup would be revealed tomorrow following the managers meeting. The World Cup would be held pool system with eleven teams, divided into two groups, will take part, he added.
The general secretary replying to a question said Bangladesh have good possibility to improve ranking through the World Cup because this women's kabaddi team toured Nepal where they showed admirable performance in the five-match Test series. He hoped that these girls would keep this continuation in the World Cup.
Commenting about the safety of the players during the World Cup, Sohag said: "We are very alert regarding this issue.... we'll try to give them maximum security and safety...... we have already appointed woman liaison officer for the teams."
He also expressed his gratitude for the overall support of Ministry of Youth and Sports other offices of the government and sponsors to make the World Cup a success.
Ahead of the World Cup, the Bangladesh eve kabaddi team has been undergoing training under the supervision of coaches Shahnaz Parveen Maleka and Arduzzaman Munshi at BKSP in Savar.
In the first edition, Bangladesh lost to Japan in the quarterfinals. India became the champions and Iran became the runners-up.
