Two minor girls drown in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Nov 15, 2025 (BSS) - Two minor girls drowned in a pond of Nilphamari Government College on Saturday afternoon. 

The deceased were - Safrin Jannat, 07, daughter of Matiur Rahman, an official of Nilphamari Sonali Bank and resident of Babrizhar village under Chaprasaramjami union in Sadar upazila and Tanha Akhter, 07, daughter of Zahirul Islam of Patkamuri village under Kundapukur union of the upazila.

The families of the two children live in the same rented house on College Station Road of the district town.

The girls went to the pond for taking bath and drowned. Seeing the incident, 

Safrin’s younger brother, Alfi started screaming. Hearing his scream, locals rushed to the spot, rescued them and took them to Nilphamari General Hospital, where the on duty doctors declared them dead.

Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station M.R. Sayeed confirmed the matter.
