
CHAPAINAWABAGANJ, Nov 15, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the Indian hegemony would no more work in Bangladesh.
He said this while speaking as the Chief Guest at a public rally here demanding a fair distribution of the Padma River water.
“The only goal of today's rally is to save the Padma, to save the country. The movement will continue until our just right to the waters of the Ganges-Padma is established. India's dominance will no longer be tolerated in Bangladesh,” he said.
Local BNP and a local organization styled “Chapainawabganj Coordination Committee for the Demand of Fair Share of Padma River Water” jointly organized the rally at the Chapainawabganj Government College ground.
Mirza Fakhrul said that India frequently closes the export of onions and rice, and during the monsoon season opens all the gates of the Farakka Barrage.
“As a result, vast areas of Bangladesh face flooding and erosion almost every year. This must not be allowed to happen anymore. India must maintain a friendly attitude toward Bangladesh,” he said.
Terming Farakka Barrage as a major problem for Bangladesh, Fakhrul said the unilateral withdrawal of Ganges water by building a dam at Farakka point has created a water crisis. Despite having a water-sharing treaty with India, the desired results have not been achieved, he said.
Fakhrul said Bangladesh is an agriculture based country and one of the main components of agriculture is water. To save the country, we must save agriculture and we must save the rivers. There is no alternative to forming a strong unity for this purpose.”
“If the people give the BNP with the responsibility of running the country in the future, all international rights will be secured under the leadership of Tarique Rahman,” he said.
Without mentioning the name of any political party Fakhrul Islam said, People will not allow conspiracy of any party to sabotage the election as they earnestly waiting for the polls.
“The people can no longer be fooled in the name of religion. The people of the country love religion but they are not fanatics.”
BNP Chairperson's Advisor and BNP nominated candidate for Chapainawabganj-3 (Sadar) constituency in the next election Harunur Rashid presided over the rally.
BNP Chairperson's Advisors Prof Dr. Md. Shahjahan Mia, Mizanur Rahman Minu, BNP Central Executive Committee Assistant Secretary Aminul Islam, among others, spoke in the rally.
BNP nominated candidates from various constituencies in the Rajshahi district, along with leaders and activists from different units of the BNP and its affiliated organizations, and a large number of local people spontaneously participated in the programme.
