Two gets life imprisonment in Narail murder case

NARAIL, Nov 3, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced two people to life imprisonment in a murder case in Sadar upazila of the district in 2016.

District and Sessions Judge Sharmin Nigar announced the verdict around 12.30 pm on Monday, said Advocate SM Abdul Haque, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court.

The court also fined them Taka 20,000 each. 

The convicts are Asha Begum, 30, daughter of Motaleb Sardar of Baroipara village under Lohagara Police Station and Arafat Sheikh, 32, son of Osman Sheikh of Kholishakhali-Nakshi village in Sadar upazila.

In the case, the court also sentenced Roman Bhuiyan, 33, to seven years in prison and six months of non-commissioned service in default.

According to prosecution, Masum Fakir, 35, did not return home on the night of December 8, 2016, and his family members searched for him but could not find him. 

Five days after the incident, on December 13, police recovered Masum's body from a char on the north bank of the Nabaganga River at Jalalshi village in Lohagara upazila and sent it to the Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

In this incident, the younger brother of the victim, Shahidul Fakir, filed a case with the Narail Sadar Police Station on December 15, accusing the lover of the deceased Masum Fakir, Asha Begum. 

The police filed a charge sheet before the court accusing four people, including two women, in the case. 

The judge gave this verdict after taking the testimonies of a total of 22 people.
