JAMALPUR, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a rape case in bakshiganj upazila of the district in 2020.

The court also fined convict Taka 1 lakh.

District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim delivered the verdict this noon, said public prosecutor of the court Md. Fazlul Haque.

The convict is Majmat Ali alias Maja, 41, son of Irfan Ali of Batti village under Bakshiganj upazila of the district. 

According to prosecution, Majmat raped a divorced woman on the pretext of marriage on the night of July 20, 2019. Later, the woman becomes pregnant. 

The woman filed a case with Bakshiganj Police Station on February 24, 2020. After the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against Majmat.
