DHAKA, June 28, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sent one Monowara Begum to
jail after two-day remand in a case filed over her alleged attempt to
impersonate another woman in a Taka 29 lakh cheque dishonour case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order as police
produced Monowara before the court after completion of her remand and prayed
for her detention in jail until the investigation is completed.

According to the prosecution, government employee Nibedita Ahmed Tuli filed
the cheque dishonour case involving Taka 29 lakh on March 23, 2025. The
accused, Nasrin Sikder, failed to appear before the fourth Joint Metropolitan
Sessions Judge's Court on the scheduled hearing date of June 16. The court
subsequently cancelled her bail, issued an arrest warrant and fixed August 20
for the next hearing.

However, on June 25, defence counsel Advocate Hammad Emdad Hossain produced
Monowara before the court, presenting her as accused Nasrin Sikder, and
sought bail on her behalf. The court became suspicious of her identity and
handed her over to Kotwali Police Station.

Later that night, Bench Assistant Miah Md Ibrahim Khalil Opu filed the case
with Kotwali Police Station against Nasrin Sikder, Monowara Begum and
Advocate Md Hammad Emdad Hossain over the alleged impersonation.
