DHAKA, June 30, 2026 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 has convicted and sentenced former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu to 10 years' imprisonment for crimes against humanity committed in connection with the killings of six people in Kushtia during the 2024 July Mass Uprising.

The ICT-2 sentenced Inu to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment under charge No. three, 10-year jail and a fine of Taka one lakh under charge No. six, with the fine to be paid to the victims as compensation, and another 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of Taka one lakh under charge No. seven.

"The sentences, however, shall run concurrently, meaning the convict will have to serve a total of 10 years in prison," the verdict said.

The tribunal acquitted him of the charge number one, two, four, five and eight.

The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Nozrul Islam Chowdhury, pronounced the judgment this afternoon.

Inu, president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), wearing a white kurta-pajama, remained seated inside the glass-enclosed prisoner's dock throughout the proceedings, with an occasional grin crossing his face.

The second tribunal on June 22 set June 30 for pronouncing the verdict in the case.

The three-member ICT-2 on May 14 kept the judgment on CAV (curia advisari vult), meaning the tribunal would pronounce the verdict on any day after both the prosecution and the defence concluded their arguments.

Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam and Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed argued for the prosecution, while Senior Advocate Mansurul Haque Chowdhury represented Inu.

The prosecution filed the formal charge on September 25, 2025, and the tribunal took it into cognisance the same day.

The ICT-2 on November 2, 2025, indicted Hasanul Haque Inu in the case over the killings of six people in Kushtia during the July-August Mass Uprising. The tribunal framed eight specific charges against him.

The prosecution delivered its opening statement on November 30, 2025. A total of 10 witnesses, including the investigation officer, testified for the prosecution, while the defence produced two witnesses.
