Ex-MP Omar Faruk shown arrested in attempted murder case

DHAKA, July 08, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today showed former Member of Parliament (MP) for Naogaon-6 constituency Md Omar Faruk arrested in a case lodged with the capital's Mohammadpur Police Station over an attempt to murder one Sohel Rana during the 2024 July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case. The court later sent him back to jail.

According to the case documents, Mohammed Sohel Rana got shot in front of Mayur Villa in Mohammadpur tin rastar mor area on August 5, 2024. He was rushed to hospital where he went through prolonged treatment.

On June 11, 2025, Md Sohel Rana filed the case with the Mohammadpur Police Station.

Police on October 8, 2025, arrested Md Omar Faruk from the capital's Mohammadpur area.
