DHAKA, July 09, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced Md Jahangir to life imprisonment in a case filed over the dowry-related murder of his wife, Shahinur Akter, in Keraniganj.
 
Judge Md Munshi Moshiyar Rahman of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 delivered the verdict, sentencing the convict to life imprisonment. The court also fined him Taka 50,000, with an additional one-year jail term in default of payment.
  
According to the prosecution, Shahinur Akter and Jahangir Alam lived in the Khalpar area under Keraniganj Model Police Station. Following an altercation over dowry, Jahangir slit his wife's throat and fled the house on November 19, 2018.

On June 14, 2019, police filed a charge sheet against Jahangir, a garbage collector by profession. A total of six witnesses testified in the case on different hearing dates.
