Bridges Division gets Tk 2,908 crore in budget

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today proposed an allocation of Tk 2,908 crore for the Bridges Division in the national budget for 2026-27 fiscal year (FY) to strengthen the country's integrated communication network.

Placing a Tk 9.38 lakh crore national budget in the Jatiya Sangsad this afternoon, the Finance minister said the government is further enhancing integrated development activities under the Bridges Division to improve connectivity across the country.

According to the proposed budget, Tk 10 crore has been allocated for operational expenditure, while Tk 2,898 crore has been earmarked for development activities.

The Finance minister said the government is accelerating the construction of major bridges and elevated expressways to reduce travel time and transportation costs.

He also noted that the introduction and expansion of electronic toll collection systems, smart traffic management and environmentally sustainable technologies would further modernise infrastructure management and improve operational efficiency.
