DHAKA, March 12, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today said the interim government continues its all-out diplomatic efforts to ensure safe and dignified return of forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their home of origin in Rakhine state of Myanmar.

“Establishing peace and stability in Rakhine state is crucial to ensure safe and dignified return of Rohingyas. We are working to this end…we are taking all diplomatic efforts,” he told a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy here.

Alam reiterated that the government is working to ensure voluntarily and dignified return of Rohingyas and peaceful coexistence of Rohingyas and local people in Myanmar.

Replying to a query about reforms in the Election Commission (EC), he said once the government signs a broader agreement with the political parties, and then the EC will implement the reform proposals accepted by the political parties.

In another query, the press secretary said proposals of the six reform commissions were sent to all political parties and now they are scrutinizing the proposals.

However, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at 5 pm tomorrow (Thursday) on a four-day visit to Bangladesh.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and Antonio Guterres will join an Iftar party with about one lakh Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar on Friday.
