Protect us from misinformation, CA tells UN chief

DHAKA, March 15, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today sought the support of the United Nations (UN) for combating misinformation. 

"We need your blessings, we need your support particularly in one thing - misinformation that is killing us," he told an Iftar party at Hotel InterContinental here this evening. 

The Chief Adviser hosted the Iftar party in honour of the visiting United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

Prof Yunus said people work hard to make a dream come true but some people do not like it. "Protect us from misinformation and we can do the rest," he added. 

About national unity, the Chief Adviser said the unity that the students created among all the segments of population in the country is unique.

He said the country's people disagree in many things they do but they all agree in one thing - "We want to create a New Bangladesh. We have no difference in that subject".

Terming the recent student protest a historical one, Prof Yunus said the students did not have weapon but their life.

 But, he said, they raised in the protest to realise their freedom, get their nation back and stand on their own feet. "It is our new Bangladesh."

About the visit of the UN chief to Bangladesh, he said the visit opens up all the joy for the nation. 

"We are on the half way to the Ramadan but your visit started Eid earlier this time. You made the Eid begin now with your visit," the Chief Adviser said. 

UN Secretary-General António Guterres also spoke on the occasion.
