DHAKA, March 21, 2025 (BSS) - A group of Dhaka University (DU) students today held a rally at the base of Anti-terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus demanding ban on Awami League (AL) and its affiliated parties.

They demanded the interim government immediately impose ban on the party alleged of committing crimes against humanity and sought a consensus among all political parties to realize their demand.

Student coordinator AB Zubair said it is a matter of regret that they required to take to the streets again to press their demand to ban such a party that killed hundreds of people.

"Trials of the AL leaders and activists and their accomplices involved in the July massacre have not finished, yet some politicians have been aiding AL to stage a comeback in national politics," he alleged.

"Those who are trying to reinstate AL in politics argued that it will be a 'good AL'. But we don't see minimum repentance among them. On top of it, they (AL men) are threatening us publicly on social media," said AB Zubair, reiterating that there is no complementary option for the interim government except banning the AL.

To realize their demand to ban AL, Zubair launched a fresh platform named 'Gonohottyakari Awami League Nishiddhokoron Mancha'.

Musaddique Ibne Ali, another spokesperson of the platform, sought cooperation and unity among the political parties to ban AL.

He regretted that though seven months have already passed since the July Uprising, not a single political party came up with strong demand of banning the AL.

Musaddique announced a sit-in and iftar programme at the Anti-terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture for March 22.

He requested students and masses to join the programme regardless of their political identities and personal views.

This platform will be dissolved once the interim government imposes ban on AL and its wings, said Musaddique.
