DHAKA, June 26, 2025 (BSS) - The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has filed its probe report in a case filed over the killing of Abu Sayed during the July mass uprising, bringing charges against 30 people, including policemen.
Confirming the matter to newsmen, prosecutor Mizanul Islam said the probe has brought charges against 30 people in the case over the killing of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayed.
"We are scrutinising the report and are hoping to file a formal charge in the case next Sunday at the ICT-2," the senior prosecutor said.
The first tribunal on June 15 granted the prosecution one month to submit the investigation report in a case.
It also had allowed the investigation agency of the tribunal to interrogate accused former sub-inspector of police Amir Hossain and former constable Sujan Chandra Roy on June 18, and former proctor of Begum Rokeya University, Shariful Islam, and general secretary of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) varsity wing, Imran Chowdhury Akash on June 19.
The tribunal on April 9 showed the four arrested in the case.
According to the prosecution, before the killing of Abu Sayed on July 16, 2024, the then proctor Shariful and leaders and activists of BCL attacked the varsity students and forced them off their campus. At one point, two policemen shot and killed Abu Sayed from very close range, Muhammad Tajul Islam said earlier.
The family members of martyr Abu Sayed, on January 13, filed a complaint against 25 people over his killing.
