CUMILLA, July 19, 2025 (BSS) – Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser (CA) Shafiqul Alam here today said that election would be held in the country within the timeframe, set by Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Professor Muhammad Yunus.

“And the election won’t be delayed even by a single day,” he said.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam made this remark while responding to questions from journalists after attending the ‘TEDx Comilla University’ event organized by the Comilla University here today.

The event was held at the Mainamoti auditorium of the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD)   at Kotbari in Cumilla.

Shafiqul Alam mentioned that there is no uncertainty over the election. “The election will be held within the timeframe that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has mentioned. The election won’t be delayed even by a single day. You will see a peaceful election to be held in a very beautiful environment. The current government will present the best election in the history of Bangladesh,” he said.

He said that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has repeatedly mentioned time and again that there is no uncertainty over the election. “The election will be good, the environment for the election will be ensured while a level-playing field will also be ensured. All candidates will have equal opportunities in the upcoming election so that none can allege that they were treated unfairly.”

Regarding the discussions over the PR (Proportional Representation) system, Shafiqul said that talks are being held among the National Consensus Commission and the political parties about this.

“In other countries, it takes about three to four years to reach decisions on such matters. But, due to the prudence of our political parties, consensus has already been reached on many issues. Consensus has been achieved on eight issues, discussions are ongoing on seven more while such level of discussions are yet to take place on three issues. We believe that good decisions will come on each matter,”

On the country’s law and order situation, Shafiqul Alam said that the government has been trying to keep the law and order situation normal. “After every incident, you’ll see that we’ve achieved good results. None can say that after occurring of a crime, the perpetrator was not caught. In every case, the culprits were brought to justice, and we’re working very quickly. Especially in sensitive cases like rape, we are ensuring measures to hold prompt trials,”

When asked whether there was any decision about separating Gopalganj, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary said that the people of Gopalganj are the citizens of Bangladesh.

“People of all districts in the country are equal, and this government does not discriminate against anyone. Therefore, there is no decision to separate Gopalganj. This government treats all people equally and fairly,”

He said that no innocent person will be harassed adding, “Those who say that human rights are being violated in Gopalganj, I would say — take all the journalists and visit Gopalganj to see whether is any violation of law or not,”

Regarding the declaration of July Charter on August 5, Shafiqul Alam said that they still cannot say whether the July Charter would be declared on August 5, but they are trying their best.

In other countries, he said political settlements on such issues often take years. “But, our political parties are meeting on this almost every day and everyone is discussing it. Efforts are being made to bring everyone to a consensus on the issues where consensus hasn’t yet been reached. We believe that the July Charter will be announced based on the opinions of all political parties,”

Mentioning the role of the youths in the July Revolution, the Press Secretary said that this generation has accomplished what the adults could not do.

He said the youths had protested without using aggressive language like writing on walls ‘Natok Kom Koro PO’ and that was their protest. “They demanded reforms and also showed implementation of those,”

The Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary further said that the country’s youths could not exercise their voting rights for long.

He also noted that there is now great enthusiasm among the youth-folk centring the upcoming election.

Comilla University Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Haider Ali, news presenter Farabi Hafiz, and astrophotographer Zubayer Kawlin spoke, among others, at the event.
