DHAKA, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh will seek cooperation from Malaysia on deep-sea fishing, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said today.

During his visit to Malaysia, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will ask Malaysia to invest in this sector aiming to explore Bangladesh marine potential, he said.

Alam revealed this information at a press briefing, organised on the Chief Adviser's visit to Malaysia, at the Foreign Service Academy here.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is leaving on a three-day state visit to Malaysia tomorrow at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation during the visit.

The Press Secretary said, "We catch Hilsa and other marine fish within 40 to 50 kilometers of the deep sea. However, our maritime boundary is about 210,000 square kilometers, which is about 60,000 square kilometers more than the land area."

The Chief Adviser wants to fully utilise the potential of deep-sea fishing, he said

Alam mentioned that earlier, during the Chief Adviser's visit to Japan, he sought cooperation from Japan.

This time, Prof Yunus will request Malaysia to come forward to investing in Bangladesh, he said.

Alam also said Malaysia's renowned car manufacturer Proton Holdings is now investing heavily in electric vehicles. "They produce a lot of cars. During the visit, Bangladesh will invite Proton Holdings to invest here."

In addition, the Press Secretary said, the Chief Adviser will hold a meeting with the CEO of Robi Axiata.

He hoped that the Chief Adviser’s visit to Malaysia would be very successful.
