DHAKA, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS) – The nationwide 72-hour transport strike, scheduled to begin on August 12, has been unanimously withdrawn today at the initiative of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry.
 
The decision was made during a meeting with the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association, held at Bidyut Bhaban in the city’s Abdul Gani Road, and organized by the Road Transport and Highways Division.
 
"The draft amendment to the Road Transport Act, 2018 will be prepared within a maximum of 60 days after convening an inter-ministerial meeting and gathering opinions from various stakeholders," said Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan following the meeting.
 
He added that the government is sincere in ensuring that transport owners and workers do not suffer losses when outdated vehicles are removed from the roads.
 
In addition, the Road Transport Adviser requested the health ministry to establish a specialized hospital to provide treatment for transport workers injured in road accidents. He also announced plans to take necessary steps to actively implement the ‘Road Transport Workers’ Welfare Fund Act, 2025’ in accordance with its rules.
 
Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Dr. Sheikh Mainuddin, Senior Secretary of the Road Division Ehsanul Huq, and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association Saiful Alam also spoke at the event, which was chaired by Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan.
 
It is mentionable that the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association had earlier threatened a 72-hour nationwide transport strike starting August 12 if their eight-point demands were not met.
