DHAKA, Oct 17, 2025 (BSS) – Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has said New Bangladesh has emerged through signing of the July National Charter which will guide the nation towards the rule of law, justice and prosperity by ending the long 16 years of brutality.
“Today is the day of our new birth. We have introduced a New Bangladesh through the signing,” he said while addressing as the chief guest the much waited historic signing ceremony of the July National Charter-2025 at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here this afternoon.
The Chief Adviser hoped that the change will take forward the country with proper execution of the charter by all keeping aside all the differences. The change has been possible due to the student-people led July Mass Uprising, he said.
“We have to bring the changes in our national life. Changes have to be made in our constitution and in running the government,” Yunus said.
The youths who sacrificed their lives for the change will build the country afresh. They will show us the path, he said adding “the country belongs to the youths. Half of the 18 crore population is under 27 years.”
Yunus said the July National Charter sets an example not only for Bangladesh, but also for the whole world.
“Many country will come to us to learn how we have made it possible the signing of July Charter involving the whole nation,” he said.
Chief Adviser and Chairman of National Consensus Commission Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, members of the Commission, and leaders of different political parties singed the charter simultaneously on the occasion.
The ceremony began at 4.25pm in a festive manner with the Chief Adviser in the chair.
Recalling the martyrs, injured and heroes of the 2024 July Uprising, Professor Yunus said, “Today we recall those brave heroes, including the martyrs and injured, of the uprising and pay tributes and express gratitude to them. We got the opportunity today due to their contribution”.
“We as well as the entire nation will remain grateful to them forever,” he added.
Through signing the July National Charter, the Chief Adviser said, the nation returned to civilization from brutality where there was no rule of law and people could do whatever they want.
“Now we move to civilization. Now we will build such a civilization that people will see us with eyes of jealousy. However, it will depend on our activities in the post July Charter signing period,” he said, adding, “Our future is very bright if we can only build the society (properly)”.
Highlighting the political unity established centering the July National Charter, the Chief Adviser said, “If we could reach consensus on other issues like the charter, our country will transform into a unique country. Our country has that strength”.
Putting emphasis on utilizing the country’s wealth, Professor Yunus said Bay of Bengal, which is full of resources, is the part of Bangladesh, but it remains unutilized.
Noting that the charter brought discipline in the country, he emphasized continuing the unity and running the country maintaining the discipline to ensure the full utilization of the national resources.
Speaking about the deep seaport, the Chief Adviser said if Bangladesh builds deep seaports, the vessels of the whole world will be bound to come to Bangladesh instead of unloading “our goods in Singapore”.
Emphasizing building a regional economy, Professor Yunus said, “If we can build a regional economy involving Nepal, Bhutan and Seven Sisters of India through ocean. Along with them, we will also be enriched”.
Speaking about the upcoming national polls, he reaffirmed that the election will be held in February next year.
“We want to hold a beautiful election, which will be an example for the nation and the world as well. We will do it Insha Allah,” he said.
The Chief Adviser said the government wanted to hold the next election with the tune of unity, which guided today’s signing of the July National Charter.
He called upon the political leaders to make collective efforts to create a congenial atmosphere for holding the next parliamentary election in a fair and festive manner.
“We will go towards the election with the tune of unity that led the signing of the charter. Keep the unity intact,” he said.
Following the Chief Adviser’s speech, a seven minute documentary highlighting the misrule, including Shapla Chattar massacre, Pilkhana carnage, killings, enforced disappearances, Ayna Ghar and looting, 2024 July Uprising and the July National Charter titled ‘The Roadmap of Future’ was screened.
Later, the Chief Adviser exchanged greetings with the political leaders and National Consensus Commission members who signed the charter and took part in a photo session on the stage.
