LGCRRP to boost local resilience against future pandemics: Senior Secretary

KHULNA, Oct 27, 2025 (BSS) - Senior Secretary of the Planning Commission's Physical Infrastructure Division M A Akmal Hossain Azad has said the 'Local Government Covid-19 Response and Recovery Project (LGCRRP)' will strengthen community preparedness to tackle future pandemics and disasters.

"The Covid-19 pandemic caused massive livelihood losses. This project will help local bodies respond better to such crises in the future," he said while addressing a workshop on the project's implementation challenges and strategies at the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) auditorium on Sunday afternoon.

The Senior Secretary said the project aims to build resilient local infrastructure and strengthen economic recovery through improved planning and management at the grassroots level.

He urged officials to ensure transparency, efficiency, and timely completion of all works under the project.

Azad informed that infrastructure progress under the project in Khulna Division has reached 84 percent and expressed optimism that all targets would be achieved within the stipulated time.

Project Director Nazmus Sadat Md Jillarur Rahman presided over the workshop.
Additional Secretary of the Planning Commission's Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Institutions Division Md Babul Mia, Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Toufiqueur Rahman, and Additional Chief Engineer of LGD Khulna Division Sheikh Md Nurul Islam addressed the event as special guests.

Senior officials from 37 municipalities under Khulna Division also attended the workshop.
