DHAKA, Dec 11, 2025 (BSS)- BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is currently  being treated with ventilation support.

A press release of the medical board formed for her treatment said, due to an increase in Khaleda Zia's breathing difficulties, a drop in blood oxygen levels, and a rise in carbon dioxide, she was initially placed on a High-Flow Nasal Cannula and BiPAP machine. 
However, as there was no improvement in her condition, she was put on 'elective ventilator support' to allow her lungs and other organs to rest.

The doctors informed that her dialysis was started due to kidney function failure and is still being administered regularly. Due to complications from gastrointestinal bleeding and Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC), she requires transfusions of blood and various blood components.

Furthermore, a routine echocardiogram revealed issues with the aortic valve, and a subsequent 'TEE' (Transesophageal Echocardiogram) test detected Infective Endocarditis. 

Following this diagnosis, the Medical Board doctors initiated treatment according to international guidelines.

Acute Pancreatitis was detected on November 27, and treatment for this condition is ongoing. Concurrently, due to the detection of severe bacterial and fungal infections in her body, she is being administered strong antibiotics and antifungal treatment.

A multidisciplinary medical team, composed of domestic and foreign specialists from various fields, is closely monitoring Khaleda Zia’s physical condition daily and providing the necessary treatment. 

The doctors requested the media and the general public to refrain from spreading incorrect or unverified information, place trust in the Medical Board, and respect the patient's personal privacy.

Khaleda Zia has long been suffering from various chronic complications, including liver, kidney, heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis. After experiencing increased breathing difficulty, cough, and fever while at home towards the end of last month, she was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on November 23. 
Following her admission, tests revealed a sharp deterioration in her lungs, heart, and kidneys, leading to her rapid transfer from the cabin to the Critical Care Unit.
