
DHAKA, Dec 12, 2025 (BSS) - People across the country are delighted by the announcement of election schedule as they would be able to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad polls after a long time.
In a pre-recorded televised address yesterday evening, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin announced that the 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls and the July Charter referendum would be held on February 12, 2026.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) have welcomed the announcement of the election schedule.
Reacting promptly, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told newsmen at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office yesterday evening, "Today is a day of joy."
"The election schedule announcement by the Election Commission has reassured us. Through this announcement today, it has been proven that the Election Commission, the government and political parties want to hold the election. They want to implement the people's right to vote," he added.
At a briefing at Jamaat's central office in Moghbazar yesterday, party's Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahbub Zubair said Jamaat expects that the Election Commission will fulfill several major responsibilities to ensure a free, fair, and neutral election.
National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary welcomed the announcement of the election schedule while speaking at a press conference at NCP's Banglamotor central office on Thursday evening.
Welcoming the announcement of the election schedule, the Dhaka University (DU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal brought out a procession on Thursday night.
Following the declaration of the election schedule in the evening, the leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal gathered at the TSC and launched marches through key roads on the campus.
In Bogura, the announcement has created much enthusiasm and excitement among the political arena and the commoners as the uncertainty of the elections has been removed. Leaders and workers of all parties were seeing this schedule announcement as a positive step.
Immediately after the announcement of the election schedule, enthusiasm was seen among party leaders and workers and the common people in Bogura, while potential candidates of different parties welcomed the polls schedule.
BNP's nominated candidate from Bogura-1, Kazi Rafiqul Islam, said with the announcement of the schedule, the nation has been free from fear that they are going to get a free and fair election.
After the announcement, there is a festive atmosphere among various political leaders and activists in Rajshahi.
Mizanur Rahman Minu, BNP-nominated candidate from Rajshahi-2, said they welcomed the announcement of this schedule. "We hope that democracy will be well established in the country through a fair and impartial election."
Rajshahi District Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Golam Murtaza also welcomed the announcement of the election schedule. "We hope that the schedule will create an electoral environment. The people will be able to exercise their right to vote. The government will be able to create this environment," he said.
As soon as the schedule was announced, the long-awaited joy was evident on the faces of local leaders, activists, dignitaries and common people.
Meherpur District Press Club President Tozammel Azam said there was some tension across the country but after the schedule was announced, it seems that everything has returned to normal. "The announcement of the election schedule now feels like a festival," he said.
Abdur Razzak Master, a senior political figure of Gangni Upazila, said now everyone is preparing with enthusiasm and the election field has come back to life after the announcement.
In Naogaon, candidates of all parties and the common people in the district were happy after the announcement of the schedule for the elections. The people of the northern border district are floating in a tide of joy with the news that they will vote beautifully again after a long time.
BNP nominated candidate from Naogaon-3 Fazle Huda Babul said people did not vote for 17 long years as the fascist Sheikh Hasina government had kept the election in a museum.
"That's why we are all happy that the Election Commission announced the election schedule," he added.
In Khulna, the schedule announcement has ended the uncertainty of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections. Now the entire nation is waiting for a competitive, fair, impartial, participatory and festive election, BSS Khulna correspondent adds.
Candidates of various political parties, including BNP, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP and Islamic Andolan are making rush to the doors of voters in their respective areas without any hesitation. And the voters are also looking forward to exercising their right to vote.
Common people, journalists and political activists and voters in Khulna have expressed their hope in their immediate reaction.
In Panchagarh, Satkhira, Chadpur, Narail, Chapainawabganj, Jhalakathi, Natore and many other districts, people expressed their joy and came to the streets welcoming it.
