DHAKA, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Tuesday urged party leaders and activists to remain united and vigilant, saying that conspiracy against the country is continuing and the road ahead, including the upcoming election, will be challenging.
"Conspiracies in the country have not stopped, and a difficult time lies ahead. This election is also not very easy. Therefore, everyone must remain united," he said.
Tarique Rahman was addressing a discussion organised by London BNP at the City Pavilion in London, marking the Great Victory Day.
He said he had cautioned a year ago that difficult times were approaching. "Now I am saying it again, the time ahead will not be favourable. Only through unity can we build the Bangladesh we aspire to and establish an accountable system," he added.
At the beginning of his speech, Tarique Rahman expressed gratitude to expatriate Bangladeshis for their continued support. The venue was packed to capacity and he repeatedly urged leaders and activists to maintain peace and discipline.
Seeking prayers and blessings, Tarique Rahman announced that he would return home on December 25.
"I seek everyone's blessings. Please pray for me, pray for our leader of the nation Begum Khaleda Zia, and pray that I can complete the work I have outlined for the country and its people," he said.
Making a special appeal to party activists, Tarique Rahman requested them not to gather at the airport on the day of his return.
"Going to the airport will create commotion and may damage the reputation of both the country and the party," he said, adding that those who respect his request would be honouring the dignity of the party and the nation.
He warned that ignoring this appeal would be viewed as an act driven by personal interest rather than party discipline.
At the end of the programme, a short video was screened highlighting the vision of building a new Bangladesh following the Liberation War of 1971, the fall of what was termed the "fascist regime of 2024," and a mass uprising.
Tarique Rahman outlined his plans for transforming Bangladesh into a prosperous welfare state, mentioning initiatives such as Family Cards, Farmers' Cards, Health Cards and measures to address unemployment.
Laing emphasis on the upcoming polls, he said, "This election is not an experiment. It is an opportunity for change, and we must utilise it honestly."
He also warned against indiscipline, saying that work must begin in an organised manner to achieve the party's goals.
Tarique Rahman, however, hoped that the BNP would form the government in the future with the support of the people.
