DHAKA, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today called upon all to be vigilant so that Bangladesh does not once again gain the identity of a fascist state.

"Deceiving the people will not work. We do not want to be known globally as a fascist country again. We will fight against misrule, Insha'Allah. We want to build a humanitarian Bangladesh," he said while taking part a discussion as the chief guest at Jatiya Press Club here.

The discussion titled "The Great Liberation War, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and the Current Political Context," was organized by the Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB).

Dr Moyeen Khan said that according to recent figures, Bangladesh is now the most densely populated country in the world, with 36.6 million people residing here. By 2050, Dhaka will become the world's largest, most densely populated city.

"However, how we manage that city is a matter for serious consideration. Although we are not yet economically strong, we survive by eating 'dal-bhat' (rice and lentils) through the informal economy. Those who take charge of governing the country in the future must work on these issues, work that the Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman accomplished in just three and a half years."

Mentioning the fascist Awami League regime, he said, "The Awami League began serving themselves instead of serving the country, which can be called an oligarchy system. They mainly established an oligarchy using the wealthy people of society. As a result, the poor have become poorer."

"Even after 54 years of independence, we are still searching for democracy. It was for this democracy that the people of Bangladesh fought the Liberation War in 1971. People fought for the economic rights and liberation of the poor. I believe that those who have led the country in the past and those currently leading must be held accountable for why they failed. The future leaders must offer promises and hope that they will solve these issues if they come to power," added Moyeen Khan.

He commented that the struggle for establishing human rights is an incessant war; it feels like an eternal struggle. "The interim government is saying they will transform the country into a dream nation through reform. However, reform is a continuous process that has not stopped. It is through reform that we have reached the 21st century," he said.

DAB President Prof Dr Harun Al Rashid presided over the event and Treasurer Dr Mehedi Hasan moderated the event.
Advisor to the BNP Chairperson Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Chief Advisor of DAB Prof Dr Farhad Halim Donor, Senior Vice President Dr Abul Kenan and Acting Secretary General Dr Khalequzzaman Dipu spoke in the event.

Moreover,  Dr. Sirajul Islam, Dr. Mostak Rahim Swapon, Dr. Parvez Reza Kakon, Dr. Erfanul Haque Siddiqui, Dr. Adnan Hasan Masud, Dr. Shafiullah Jhintu, Dr. Samiul Hasan Babu, Dr. Masud Akhter Jitu, Dr. Alamgir Hossain Jonny, Dr. Md. Zafar Iqbal, Abu Naser, Dr. Shamsul Alam, Dr. Atikur Rahman Sujan, Dr. Farhad Hossain, Dr. Erfan Ahmed Sohel (Office Secretary), Abu Nur, Md. Masud Rana, Dr. Kaiser Yamin Ishad (Assistant Office Secretary), Dr. Shafiqul Islam (Assistant Office Secretary), Dr. Galib Hasan, Dr. Rakibul Islam Akash, Dr. Amirul Islam Pavel, and Dr. Redwan were present in the event, among others.

Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said, "There are no freedom fighters in the Awami League. They became freedom fighters by listening to stories of the Liberation War. They have used the Liberation War as a tool."

Regarding Tarique Rahman's return, he said, "Insha'Allah, Tarique Rahman will return on December 25. This will end his decade and a half of exile and fulfil the eagerness of all the people of the country."

Prof Dr Farhad Halim Donor said that the Great Liberation War and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman are interconnected. "He ( Ziaur Rahman) did not just declare independence; he fought in the war himself. Later, after coming to power, he brought fundamental changes to the country. He took multifaceted steps to build a self-reliant Bangladesh."

In his presidential address, Prof Dr Harun Al Rashid said, "The people of the country know what the role of those who are currently jumping to gain power was during the Liberation War.

“They killed the nation's best sons. These facts must be highlighted again for the new generation. On the other hand, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman declared the country's independence and fought in the war himself. Multi-party democracy was restored in the country under his leadership. Insha'Allah, the BNP will form the government again through the people's mandate in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election and build a prosperous Bangladesh," he added.
