DHAKA, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) has decided to postpone the elections for Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 constituencies in the upcoming 13th national elections scheduled for February 12 next.

Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed made the announcement today while speaking to the journalists at Nirbachan Bhaban here.

“The election activities for Pabna-1 and 2 constituencies have been postponed. All election related activities are currently suspended,” he said.

However, the EC clarified that the postponement applies only to Pabna-1 and Pabna-2, while the election schedule for other constituencies remains unchanged.
The decision was earlier communicated on January 6 through a letter signed by Deputy Secretary of the Election Management-2 Branch of the EC Secretariat Mohammad Monir Hossain.
According to the letter, the postponement comes in light of an order issued on January 5, 2026, by the Appellate Division concerning the delimitation of the boundaries of National Parliament constituencies 68 (Pabna-1) and 69 (Pabna-2).

The letter further stated that the elections in the two constituencies will remain suspended until further orders from the court.

The Election Commission has instructed the Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer of Pabna to take necessary measures in accordance with the decision.
